    Jog-A-Thon Updates

The Jog-A-Thon was a success, and Turner students did an incredible job in participating and feeling motivated to support their school. All the money collected for the Jog-A-Thon will be due on Friday October 7th.

There will be a Jog-A-Thon money count on Monday October 10th at 8:00 am in the library. Parents are invited to volunteer to assist in helping count the total funds that were gathered from the Jog-A-Thon.  A special thank you to Life Source who was a sponsor, and donated apples and energy bars to the students for the Jog-A-Thon event.

    Treasure Report

Sarah Federico gave updates of the current Turner Parent Club budget. We had a starting account of $6,487.31 as of September 2011.

    • Eight Turner Elementary teachers were given a donation of $100.00 dollars for classroom set up, supplies, and curriculum.

    • $60.94 went to A to Z Rental for a snow cone machine that was used in the POC family night.

    • $15.00 went to Denise Mellor to provide daycare for the PTC meetings.

    • $ 322.68 was donated to Turner Elementary for the purchase of play ground equipment.

    • No Deposits made.

Leaving us with an ending balance: $5,288.69

    Family Movie Night:

During the Turner Elementary open house, students and their families had an opportunity to vote on the movie that would be played during Family Movie Night on October 22nd at 6:00 pm.  The movie with the most votes was “Phineas and Ferb the Movie”.  The event is in the process of being planned.

There will be an additional Family Movie Night that will be scheduled for April, 2012.

    Upcoming

Carnival: There was conversation on the carnival planning. The organization and operation, and how we will be assigning a main person to be responsible for managing small committees of activities. This year we will be doing candy apples and cotton candy again.

There is a formal letter that Melissa Casady can provide, if anyone has connections and would like to solicit on behalf of Turner Elementary.

Turner Tornado Gear: Tornado gear will go out for sale in October, and will be announced in the Turner newsletter.

    Author visit

Suzanne Selfors from Washington will be visiting the Turner Elementary students on the 3rd week of March 2012, during Love Reading, which will be a three week event. We will be promoting reading and writing. Students will be writing books and linking them with authors, have themed days, celebrating Dr. Seuss’ Birthday which is March 2nd, etc.  Suzanne Selfors is known for having activities, costumes, PowerPoint’s, and really getting the students involved in participating. She has written Smells Like Dog, and Smells Like Treasure.  She will have assigned times and be working with the classrooms or in smaller groups with the students.  The total cost of her visit will be $750.00 paid by TPC.

The TPC requests to purchase a book for each teacher that the author has written to introduce her work, and announce her visit to the students. Each book is $6.99 x 8 teachers= $56 Or 8 books total. A selection of Suzanne’s books will be purchased, and can remain in the library after that for students to continue to check in and out.

Colene Copeland, author of "Pricilla" series was suggested by Lisa Newton as a possible author for next year.

    Open Discussion or Suggestions

Dan Petersen gave a brief update on the turnout of Mr. Tie dye visit. Students really enjoyed creating their own shirts. Turner Elementary paid $1,500.00 in addition to donations to cover the cost. Cascade Track program also donated to Turner Elementary.

The TPC approved donating $500 to assist with the cost of Mr. Tie dye.

Rachel Regan solicited assistance to plan this year’s cow pie event. She will be generating a list of assigned jobs for the event. Cow Pie Classic funds will continue to go towards health and science curriculum.

Travis Newton offered to provide the school with a microwave for the students to heat up their lunch meals. This would imply that a staff member would have to monitor the students, because some students may not be able to access it themselves for safety and liability purposes. The Mr. Petersen and TPC members agreed with the suggestion.
